ESR13: (POSITION FILLED) Biodistribution of Nanomedicine Libraries; University of Helsinki (Finland)
At University of Helsinki, we perform research and educate students covering the full width of the academic spectrum. Our campus is located in Viikki on a green, modern campus with state-of-the-art facilities that include pharmaceutical sciences, biotechnology, neuroscience, veterinary medicine, and biosciences. University of Helsinki is internationally recognized member university in LERU (League of European Research Universities.
The Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Helsinki invites applications for the NANOMED European Training Network within Marie Sklodowska Curie Programme. The applications are invited for a
DOCTORAL STUDENT POSITION (Early Stage Researcher 13: Biodistribution of Nanomedicine Libraries)
In this ESR project, nanomedicine libraries will be generated with unique marker molecule in each particle type. The analyses of nanoparticle will be carried out using LC/MS methods. The interactions of the nanoparticles with ocular cells and tissues and tissue distribution in vivo will be investigated. Selected particles will be tested for pharmacological activity against choroidal neovascularization in the animal eyes. The experimental data will be integrated into a pharmacokinetic model.
Required background: M.Sc. degree in appropriate field of science (e.g. pharmacy, chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, biotechnology).
Prof. Arto Urtti’s multi-disciplinary research group at University of Helsinki, Faculty of Pharmacy, in Finland, offers a training programme in the field of biopharmaceutical sciences. The group’s target is to build materials for targeted and controlled drug delivery. Research activity involves physico-chemical aspects of the materials and formulations, biological features of drug delivery systems in the cells and tissues, and computational simulation methods to model drug delivery processes in the body. The group has particularly strong expertise in ocular drug delivery and related pharmacokinetics. The NANOMED project will provide training across a wide range of disciplines including biology, pharmacology, chemistry and material sciences, ensuring interdisciplinary and intersectoral experience. You will be enrolled in University of Helsinki doctoral programme in drug reserch and will defend your PhD at the end of the project. The PhD research in the Helsinki will be conducted in English. You will perform your PhD research in a multidisciplinary Initial Training Network (ITN) project called NANOMED.
