ESR15: (POSITION FILLED) Development of scalable processes for the manufacture of nanocarriers; ChemConnection BV (Oss, The Netherlands)
At ChemConnection, we are passionate about chemistry and (nano)medicines. Our company is dedicated to the development and cGMP manufacture of novel pharmaceutical products comprising complex Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients and nanodelivery systems. Our nanomedicine expertise and capabilities cover the entire process: from building blocks such as monomers, polymers, PEG- and lipid derivatives up to the final nanomedicine pharmaceutical product. ChemConnection’s services range from R&D up to clinical manufacture. Because of our experience and state-of-the art facilities, we have successfully brought tens of compounds from pre-clinical development to commercial reality. This makes ChemConnection one of the leading companies to bring nanomedicine discoveries from all over the world to the clinic.
Early Stage Researcher (PhD Candidate) for the NANOMED European Training Network
within the Marie Sklodowska Curie Programme (1,0 fte)
Application deadline: 23 November 2015
ChemConnection – based in Oss, The Netherlands – offers a program of training in the field of process development and manufacturing. Our target is to bring newly discovered nanomedicines to clinical trials, by adapting laboratory preparation protocols for large scale cGMP production. At the same time, we develop and implement analytical methods to perform the required quality control of intermediates and products. ChemConnection is cGMP certified by the Dutch Health Authorities (IGZ) and has licenses for GMP manufacture of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API), and bulk nanoparticles, and for testing of API, bulk nanoparticles, and formulations. The company is a rapidly growing organization, which creates a dynamic and supportive work environment. Close collaboration with the Prof.dr. Jan van Hest Bio-Organic Chemistry research group at Radboud University – based in Nijmegen, the Netherlands – guarantees the academic nature of the program.
The NANOMED project will provide training across a wide range of disciplines including biology, pharmacology, chemistry and material sciences, ensuring interdisciplinary and intersectoral experience. Besides your appointment at ChemConnection, you will be enrolled in Radboud University’s doctoral program. You will defend your PhD at the end of the project at Radboud University. The PhD research in the Netherlands will be conducted in English.
Early Stage Researcher (ESR) 15: Development of scalable processes for the manufacture of nanomedicines
In this ESR-task, robust and scalable processes will be developed for various building blocks and functionalized nanoparticles. This includes the required analytical method development to characterize the products, and to monitor the effects of scale up on the product quality and the consistency of the manufacturing processes. Both batch and flow processes may be evaluated for each product. The manufacturing process of the nanocarriers entails not only the preparation of the particles but also the purification of the particles for which various scalable methods can be applied. During the purification steps all solvent residues, free polymer residues, free API residues, and other residues need to be removed in order to obtain a product that can in principle be tested in preclinical and clinical studies. The investigation of the processes will therefore also take into account quality requirements of EMA and FDA as described in guidances for pharmaceutical nanomedicine development. The aim is to set up manufacturing processes that could be readily translated into GMP manufacturing of clinical products.
Skills required: supramolecular chemistry, nanoscience, hands-on experience with organic chemistry, analysis techniques, affinity with pharmaceutical development.
You will perform your PhD research in a multidisciplinary Initial Training Network (ITN) project called NANOMED.
